Southern Ocean Chamber Holiday Hallmarks are meant to provide resources to businesses throughout the LBI region during the holiday season. The series will offer tips and tricks on how to standout as well as innovative marketing strategies, and will remind residents and visitors the importance of supporting local businesses.

During the holidays, your company is likely to do more business than any other time of the year. According to the National Retail Federation, holiday sales represent about 20% of annual retail sales each year. Additionally, holiday sales can be more profitable as the increased sales come without significantly increasing retailers’ fixed costs of doing business. Make sure your business stands out this season and take advantage of this shopping surplus!
An easy and cost-friendly approach to boosting holiday sales is to utilize your social media channels. Create a schedule of post ideas to keep you on track. Share everything from dessert recipes, meals specials and gift ideas to holiday hours. See below for a variety of ways to create great content on social media for the holidays.
Create a Branded Holiday Backdrop for Photos
Have your customers do your marketing for you! Create a holiday backdrop for photos featuring holiday decor with your business’s name clearly displayed. Customers may even come in just to get the perfect pic for Instagram and while they’re there, grab some food or do some holiday shopping!
Utilize Instagram Stories
Stories have nearly taken over the Instagram platform and offer special integrations like swipe-up shopping options. Utilize the highlights option on Instagram as well to save holiday content. You can share information on your seasonal specials, deals and gift options here and continuously promote in your stories or posts.
Cross Promote with Other Businesses
Partner with local businesses to share deals, specials and offerings. Cross promotions double your exposure on social media because you have another business actively promoting yours to a different audience!
Prepare a Calendar
Don’t pull a disappearing act on social media by posting randomly. This can affect your viewership, reach and customer engagement. Plan ahead by creating a schedule or calendar of posts. Schedule your posts out ahead of time so you don’t have to try to remember each day what to post.
Create Exclusive Social Media Promotions & Deals
Reward your followers and incentivize others to follow/like your page by offering exclusive social media promotions and deals. Provide links to special pricing and offers that are only available through your social media platforms.
Share our Digital Gift Guide Map
The Southern Ocean Chamber has created a shopping guide (see below) that showcases local businesses participating in the 2019 Holidays Redefined campaign who are offering up festive deals, extended hours and events for the whole family! This is great for sharing – your followers will love being able to check out local deals, specials and more and plan their shopping days.
