New Bill May Assist with Rowdy Teens at Shore

Bill NJA5610 was introduced in the Assembly on June 8 and is being fast-tracked for a hearing this week. This can lead to legislation to increase underage drinking penalties and allow police to search teens in possession of alcohol. This bill can change how police can interact with those teens.

Under the current law, police can only issue written warnings for underage people caught with alcohol or cannabis. Police are also required to notify parents. This bill would allow police to issue fines for possession of alcohol and give the authority to search those having alcohol in plain sight.
