For the first time ever, Chowderfest will have an international competitor from Ireland for their 30th anniversary. Nancy’s Barn, based in Ballyliffin Ireland, is renowned for their homemade food and baking and their award-winning seafood chowder. Last June, the restaurant won first place in the Great Chowder Cook-Off World in Newport, Rhode Island.
Nancy’s Barn is located in an authentic 19th century converted barn where guests can expect innovative dishes, tapas, regular night-time entertainment and a quirky ambience. Owner and head-chef, Kieran Dueh Doherty shared, “I truly believe that Nancy’s Barn can be in with a chance to win under the top 3 in this category, as it will leave the customers tongues waggling wild and it is filled with delicious seafood, flavours and colours.”
Doherty’s dream of opening a restaurant at Nancy’s Barn began early in his childhood. “We would drive past Nancy’s Barn, formally known as the ‘Craft Shop’ in the seaside town of Ballyliffin, Co. Donegal. I would say to my parents ‘when I get older, I want to buy that old shed,” Doherty added. In 2008 Doherty purchased the building and opened it as a seasonal coffee shop / bistro. After business flourished, he began to expand the bistro into the restaurant it is today.
Don’t miss them at this year’s Chowderfest!
