Founded in the early 1900’s with 30 members, the Ship Bottom Volunteer Fire Company was originally located on 19th and Long Beach Blvd. The firemen fought fires using heavy handheld equipment that was quickly becoming inadequate, therefore starting a fundraising campaign, including a Fourth of July Carnival where homemade pies, cakes, jams, and jellies were sold. By 1923, the fire company raised enough funds to purchase their first piece of motorized equipment, a 1917 Reo truck and in 1930, purchased a used Cadillac and built their own chemical truck.
Now located at 21st and Central Avenue, the Ship Bottom Volunteer Fire Company handles many calls throughout the year, covering all ofShip Bottom, part of Long Beach Island and also covering for Stafford Township and Surf City. They are always looking for members in all volunteer capacities, including firefighter, junior firefighter, and auxiliary members. They also host various events during the year, including the Ship Bottom Bash, the Annual Block Party, Fire Prevention Open House, and the ever popular Santa Run.
They also have their hall available for rent for weddings, parties, meetings, and other events. Offering a full commercial kitchen with new appliances, new restrooms and full sound system, this hall is a great place to have a party at an affordable rate!
