The Barnegat Light First Aid Squad is an all-volunteer Emergency Medical Services agency that responds to 911 calls on the north end of Long Beach Island, New Jersey. The coverage area includes the the Boroughs of Barnegat Light and Harvey Cedars, as well as the High Bar Harbor, Loveladies, and North Beach sections of Long Beach Township. The agency operates year-round, with extremely high call volume in the summer months.
It was due to this high volume of calls that inspired Squad member Stephane Rebeck to create an emergency phone script, initially for the residents of the Barnegat Light First Aid Squad coverage area, and she posted it to the BLFAS Facebook page. It was such a popular post on their page that, at the request of other agencies, she redesigned it to be used along the whole island. The Sandpaper also published an article, featuring why a phone script is helpful in the event of a medical emergency, especially on Long Beach Island in the summer, when many calls are made from cell phones and/or from locations where people don’t usually live and may not instinctively know the address.
This form can be downloaded and used in case of emergency when calling 911, providing the operator with the address and any necessary details for the First Responders being dispatched to the call.
Barnegat Light First Aid Squad welcomes and encourages anyone with interest, experience, or certification in emergency care of the sick and injured to volunteer. Please contact them via Facebook message to be directed to the appropriate recruitment officer.
