CONGREGATION B’NAI ISRAEL PRESENTS THE MACCABEATS AT GRUNIN CENTER
The Maccabeats describe themselves as an extremely unique Jewish a capella group comprising 14 men that use their clean-cut, unadulterated voices – and a little Jewish humor – to connect with fans of all ages and backgrounds. Congregation B’nai Israel is thrilled to be able to showcase the music of the Maccabeats at the Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts this spring. See the performance at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.
The Grunin Center is located on the Ocean County College main campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ.
In 2007, the Maccabeats formed as student vocal group at Yeshiva University, and subsequently emerged as a Jewish a capella phenomenon now boasting more than 20 million views on YouTube, as well as numerous TV appearances and four successful albums: 2010’s Voices From The Heights, 2012’s Out of the Box, 2014’s One Day More, and 2015’s Maccabeats Hanukkah.
The group is strongly committed to the philosophy of Torah-u-Madda, the integration of traditional and secular wisdom, which is evident as they perform an eclectic array of Jewish, American, and Israeli songs. Audience members can expect to hear pieces such as “Lecha Dodi,” which combines some of the most beloved words of Jewish Liturgy, and Leonard Cohen’s melodic “Hallelujah.” Audience members can also expect to hear covers and parodies of contemporary hits using Jewish-themed lyrics.
Tickets: Adults $36, Children 12 and under $18
New Jersey Jazz Society is a proud media sponsor of the Jazz on a Sunday Afternoon Series.
