Songs You Love to Hear – Elizabeth M. Meagher, Soprano, and Friends
May 4 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Songs You Love to Hear is the Third Concert in Holy Innocents’ Spring Concert Series. Elizabeth M. Meagher, Soprano, and Friends; Spenser R. Gallo, Accompanist
This concert addresses the themes of faith, love and friendship, and invitation.
Faith is addressed with two of Miss Meagher’s favorite hymns, O God, Beyond All Praising (which begins the program) and Be Still My Soul (played beautifully within the Finlandia excerpt offered by Spenser Gallo) inspire us to praise and trust in God. She will also sing songs that remind us how important it is to recognize God’s presence around us (You’ll Never Walk Alone, Jesus Is Alive). The St. Ann School choir from Lawrenceville, NJ, will share songs of faith. They are very excited to sing in this concert.
As for love, you will hear some standards and Broadway hits that recall romance (Time after Time; Don’t Take Your Love from Me, I Hear Singing, Rodgers and Hammerstein medley). Other pieces reflect parental love (Danny Boy, Castle of Dromore, Scarlet Ribbons), hope (Believe Me…, Over the Rainbow) and friendship (Flower Song duet from Delibe’s opera, Lakme). We reflect our regard for our armed forces as we end the concert with a version of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.
The invitation theme is all about the audience, who is invited to sing out with the opening hymn and the Broadway medley. The audience should feel free, also, to harmonize, tap their toes, and “Whistle a Happy Tune” along with songs from the Sound of Music, Cinderella, and other shows from the prolific duo of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
A free will offering will be taken, and the concert will be followed by a reception.
