JAZZ PIANIST STEPHANIE TRICK PLAYS IT HOT AT THE GRUNIN CENTER
Young jazz pianist STEPHANIE TRICK will be making her Ocean County College MidWeek Jazz debut! This should be an unforgettable evening of solo piano playing! Come hear this acclaimed artist play classic jazz and swing in a single 90-minute set on Wednesday, April 12 at 8:00 p.m., Main Stage, Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts, Ocean County College Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ. Please use Parking Lot #2.
In the words of reviewer, Jack Rummel, Trick has “come to practically dominate the stride piano field”! And, legendary jazz pianist Dick Hyman said of Trick, “One of the nicest gifts to arrive on the jazz piano scene in recent times, and we couldn’t be more delighted to welcome her.”
Harlem stride piano, which developed in the 1920s and ’30s, is an orchestral style of two-handed piano playing that not only swings, but is also technically demanding and exciting to watch. With her own swinging approach, Trick is dedicated to classic jazz and the stride piano tradition. Inspired by second-generation stride pianists, such as Dick Hyman, Ralph Sutton, and Dick Wellstood, Trick has played with a number of celebrated musicians, including Hyman himself, Phil Flanigan, Rossano Sportiello, Allan Vaché, Louis Mazetier, Nicki Parrott, and Danny Coots.
A popular performer at festivals in Europe, Trick has performed at a variety of venues, including the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan, Italy; the KIG Dixieland Festival in Dresden, Germany; and the Stride & Swing Piano Summit in Boswil, Switzerland. In the United States, Trick has performed at the Arbors Records Invitational Jazz Party, the Rochester International Jazz Festival, the Gilmore Keyboard Festival, and the Sacramento Music Festival, to name a few. Trick was the 2012 recipient of the prestigious Kobe-Breda Jazz Friendship Award.
