Volume Two, Issue Three: May/June 2016
IN THIS ISSUE
Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.
More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year.
Thank you to all of our members for working to grow small businesses, create 21st century jobs, drive innovation, and increase America’s global competitiveness. Please see our complete business directory to continue to support fellow chamber members!
On April 18, the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce had a brief meeting with Trenton.
Alexander King, Aide to the Governor, is working on relations between business communities in New Jersey and the Office of the Governor. He started with the state trade associations and worked his way to more local organizations.
King wanted to hear about what we have going on locally. We explained to him that our economy is thriving, though very seasonal, but the beach, the bay, and the charm of this area are still a powerful draw. We reminded him that we are using our state Destination Marketing Organization grant to bring money into the Long Beach Island region (and the state in general) from out of state. We discussed how Ocean County tourism was responsible for $4.6 billion in 2015.
On his end, King wanted to reach out to the business community here to let us know that we have a “line” to Trenton. As members of the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce, he offered his direct contact for business concerns. He also explained that if members have paperwork lost in Trenton or questions at the state level, he can do his best to answer concerns.
